it is embarrassing, but i never tried to master controlling depth of field, until now.

It is one of those things I figured I would master in the process. So in a sense I shouldn't feel embarrassed, since everything I have done, has finally led me to this moment, where I am paying more attention to things I have been leaving to chance and improvisation before.

My philosophy has been, and still is, to tackle what you can when you can. So since I found composition and editing a struggle in the beginning, I worked on developing those techniques first. Now that I am better at composing and editing, I am now more able to focus on tones, sharpness, and most of all the light.

So lately I have been shooting with my Nikon D90 (since it has the 50mm with f/1.8) and it has allowed me to explore that shallow depth of field everyone is always talking about and it is helping me view sharpness in a new way.

With this new insight into my work, its had an interesting way of reminding me to refocus my approach in life as well.

Sort of to just reflect really. To update what needed updating, to change what needed changing.

This self reflection has led me to my earlier work and I found this early set of photos from the first time I used my Canon Rebel XSi, my first digital camera gifted to me a day early by my dad, Nick, for my birthday. Enjoy!

With everything I have learned, I mainly wanted to see how well they stood with the test of time. I am happy I took these and these photos if anything stand to remind me that I should and will never stop taking pictures. Create until the end!
