my prison

is self contained,

within.

i stare at walls

and travel,

through space

and time,

for the details to be found.

in the lights, that reflects

off dry paint on walls,

the light bends,

and glisten

to reveal

within,

what is self contained, but free,

my prism

To those that follow my work, you should recognize this photograph. To those that do not know, I use this photograph as my brand in my fine art work, as it projects nicely the artist palette that photographers use. The light.

Growing up, I became fascinated with the stars and the cosmos thanks in part to the shows that I grew up watching, e.g Star Wars, the Alien franchise, and Cowboy Bebop to name a few. When I started my tumblr, back in 2012 & 2013, I struggled with a theme and so I started to think about what I liked and enjoyed. In the end, Cowboy Bebop (while listening to "space lion" one day on youtube) is what inspired me to name my blogs "Pass Jupiter's Way" (nude work) and "Saturn's Moon Enceladus" (fine art work). Most importantly, it lead me to see how photography and the cosmos are connected, in that, in both, light, time, and perspective are important. This was my "aha!" moment and right away I found a deep connection with my photography to the cosmos.

Light is clear, but when you bend it the prism is revealed. I often amuse myself with this thought, "if life start from the stars, then life is a breakdown of a star's layer, like the prism in the light". Thinking about this now, it reminds me of a quote I read online that stated how we are the universe experiencing itself, unconsciously and objectively. So nothing is really what it seems, I guess (just google "neutrinos" and your perspective of space may change). It should come to no surprise that I find my spiritually in the stars and our cosmos. So I try to reflect that in my work.

This image is also important to me because I had to "make it" this way. When I took this photo, the image was overexposed, but just enough to capture the details of color in the morning light and the small details of the flower in the foreground. Funny how I noticed it, but I was walking back to my room and the colors grabbed my attention right away, since it reminded me of a prism.

This image boosted my confidence as an artist, not by a lot, but enough to show me that I got what it took. I may not make it today or tomorrow, but someday. All that is needed is the space of time in the end, all a matter of perspective.
