when your skill level has been refined. you may discover something new. (ironic how i find myself procrastinating with posts, when i should be editing SMH)

Before putting on the infrared filter, you need to compose and focus first. Then of course, you figure out the exposure. After using the Singh-Ray IR690 filter the first time, I learned it blocks light by 9 to 10 stops. So the photo above is one of my test shots before putting on the filter. Here as you may notice, I took my time focusing and it came out sharp. Once I checked the histogram and it looked good (everything balanced and towards the middle), I proceeded to shoot the next shot with the IR690 filter. And, WOW!

My favorite part about this, if you must know, is the top right corner, where the dark sky and clouds stand out. Those tones are killer!
As you can see, my exposure time without the filter was 1/400, but with the IR690 filter I had to drop down to 2.5 sec (9 or so stops below 1/400). I did shoot a few at 20 seconds, by adjusting the aperture, but the wind made the leaves too blurry. In the end, this one stood out to me due to having a nice mixture of sharp focus and some motion from the wind.
As I plan and consider locations around DC to shoot in, what I am getting a kick out of in infrared is the different tones and shades. I really want to blow up this image into a large print and get lost in the different shades of pink XD'
