So goes the saying.

Just took a step back to be honest. A long step back.

I needed to. Now I can say that I can continue on,

with this journey.

Earlier today I was just thinking how once we get to our destination, that is it. So we go and start the cycle again,

though it has been a difficult climb since I kept trying to avoid it.

But I find myself here again. And this time I upgraded a few things, while shifting my attention to something new.

So I purchased some cheap Neutral Density (ND) filters to practice long exposures during the day this weekend and today was sunny enough to allow me to experiment during lunchtime. With no clouds in sight, I did not go far, but decided to use the wind to my advantage.

Here's what I took today and learned.

Stacking the three ND filters, I was able to drop down below 6 stops, but it left this vignetting on the edge.

6 secf/11 • iso 100

10 sec • f/22 • iso 100

In order to eliminate the vignette on the photo, due to stacking a UV + three ND filters, I had to zoom in to 35mm.

The ones below were from inside an office building.

8 sec • f/32 • iso 100

8 sec • f/8.0 • iso 100

The bottom was overexposed on purpose to see what it'll do. But the difference with bottom one is I used a CPL (The Circular Polarizer) filter instead of the UV filter. As you can see, this filter allowed me to shoot through the reflection (compared to the photo above, where the reflection is more refined) which is pretty awesome.

As I commuted home and thought about the photos I took, I realized how perfect it is that I finally have a way to balance my shooting with my editing. Since long exposure photography will require a lot of patience and time, it will minimize the amount of photos I take and enable more time to edit behind the scenes (on content that I am releasing come 2018).

So stay tune for tomorrow. Hoping for some clouds, but if not I will experiment with my Hoya Infrared filter, which I found out can be used on digital cameras, since I thought it could only be used on film cameras.
