_____
As some of you may know, I was introduced to photography during my undergraduate studies at Roanoke College (it's been 10 years!).
I initially declared as a Music major, but I realized almost right away during my first semester that I didn't care for it as much as I thought I did. I was lost, because I did not want to pursue something that did not excite me nor did I want to fake being passionate about something. So not wanting to give up, I fell back to what I already knew, 2-dimensional art. When I was little I liked to draw and sketch by observing, but I never developed it, and so it was an easy last-minute decision to make. During my Spring semester in 2008, I took drawing and since I never had the chance to do it, I enrolled into the film photography course that was offered as well.
I purchased my first film camera that January and once I got myself in the darkroom and involved with the process, I was instantly hooked! I compared photography to drawing, but with the instantaneous process of recording a subject. And since I never liked the time it took to complete one drawing, I was certain I found my medium of chose (so far i have been right!).

We never had scanners to scan the negatives, so I am proud to say that finally this year I am taking the time to archive all my negatives from my time at Roanoke College. I am excited and it will be interesting to see what I can make from it and see how much I have grown. Stay tune folks!
Behind The Image
This image was taken for my first assignment. We were assigned to take a picture of someone outside and bracket the shots by under- and over-exposing on purpose and then changing the ISO as well to see how the light meter is affected. Needless to say, I had to re-shoot this since it was not done outside. And I can see why, since meter reading "in-doors" can be trickier and a lot of time you have to adjust the metering (e.g. meter for the highlights only).
I will say this image was underexposed by 1 to 1.5 stops. Composition-wise, I like the placement of stuff around the image and the light on the left. I needed to work it in Lightroom, but decided to keep it like this. You can notice some grain due to the lack of contrast, i.e. too gray/light in the negative, and it would get bad if I tried to increase the brightness/exposure.
